Siegfried (Ziggy) Gutekunst opened The Hidden Reef in 1995 in the basement of a small hardware store in Northeast Philadelphia. Not very long after its opening, the aquatics section of the store oversold the hardware and tools so much that the fish and aquarium dry goods took over the entire store. The business grew tremendously over the next 10 years, thanks to a large core of loyal and enthusiastic customers. In December of 2005, a fire that began in another store destroyed The Hidden Reef. The Hidden Reef did not have a new home until July of 2006, where they upgraded to a 20,000 square foot building in Levittown, PA, minutes outside of Philadelphia. Though the building may have changed, the values of the store and its employees did not. The Hidden Reef's main focus was still its customers, and making sure that their needs were second to none. Seachem products have been a vital part of The Hidden Reef since 1997 and have helped The Hidden Reef gain the trust and confidence of its customers.

Reef Dip allows The Hidden Reef to ensure that all the corals that come into the store are healthy and in the best condition before they are sold. Reef Plus is an essential item because not only does it greatly help with the health of our fish, but it allows us to display beautiful corals that are beaming with life.
