Seachem
Laboratories, Inc. was established in 1980 by Dr. Leo
G. Morin , then an associate professor in the School
of Medicine, Emory University, Atlanta, GA. In 1994,
Dr. Morin retired from the university and became full
time CEO and Scientific Director of Seachem. In 2001
Dr. Morin was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and passed
away shortly thereafter. He is succeeded by his son,
Dr. Greg Morin, now the current CEO of Seachem. President
and COO Doug Hill, along with Vice President of Sales
Jim Rogers round out the leadership team. Their goal
is to continue the legacy of innovation and intergety
that Dr. Leo Morin felt was at the core of Seachem. Seachem
moved into a state of the art 110,000 square foot facility
marking their 25th anniversary in the industry in 2005.
This facility includes production and research laboratories,
manufacturing, inventory, shipping, and office space.
Seachem's
first product was a complexed copper for treating protozoan
infestations, still sold today as Cupramine™.
Seachem products have been and continue to be based on sound
science. They now cover the full spectrum of aquarium requirements
in freshwater, seawater, reefs, and ponds. They include
buffers, conditioners, filtration media, medications, and
test kits. Most of Seachem's products are totally unique
and specific to Seachem. These include MatrixCarbon™,
the only beaded (spherical) activated carbon available anywhere,
Ammonia
Alert™, the only economical and effective continuous
ammonia monitor, Purigen™,
the only selective organic adsorbent, and, Flourite™,
the only cost-effective porous clay based substrate for
the plant aquarium.
