AquaZole
Q: I have been advised by my local fish shop that your
Aquazole medication is suitable for general worming of Discus. My question
is, how often should you worm Discus? The fish shop says once per month.
Also, several web sites state that worming should be carried out every day
for 5 to 7 days for the treatment to be effective. Is this the case with
Aquazole, or is one dose sufficient?
A: Discus should be treated for worms only when receiving them, preferably
in a quarantine situation, or when signs of having worms or parasites are
shown. Discus should not be randomly treated every month for worms or parasites
for fear of stress and damage to internal organs. Aquazole or Metronidazole
will be effective against worms or parasites and it will need to be administered
daily for a week. The best way to deliver the medication to the fish is to
mix the medication with Focus (a palatable binding agent) to "stick" the
medicine to food. It works best with frozen food. ParaGuard can also be effective
in dips for parasites that can affect discus.
