Liquid Acid Buffer
Q: I am using Liquid Acid Buffer and when I add it the pH immediately
drops to around 7.1, but then the next morning has risen back to
the 7.6 range.
A: The pH is likely rising due to certain gasses that
are equilibrating with your aquarium water. As an aquarium matures
and acids become more prevalent, they will negate any influence these
gasses have on pH. That is why pH tends to drop as an aquarium matures,
because of the acid production that builds over time. In the meantime,
all you need is a more constant or intense acid present until enough
acids can build in your aquarium to negate any influence from gas equilibration.
This acid can come from our Acid Buffer or Liquid Acid Buffer,
peat moss, or more fish.
