| Q:
Hi, I was just curious what the difference is between the
Onyx Sand and Gravel... is it just the size?
A: They are the exact same ore with
the exact same mineral composition, the only difference
is the size.
Q:
I was wondering if the onyx sand lower or raise the KH?
A: Onyx Sand will not lower KH. In some cases (water with
very little/none buffering ability) it will have a slight
impact on KH and GH.
Q:
Does Onyx provide identical benefits as Flourite in a planted
tank?
A: Both Onyx Sand and Flourite are mineral rich ores and
offer the same benefits to that respect. The difference
is Onyx Sand has a carbonate content that will offer a slight
buffering ability. Flourite will not impact buffering ability.
Q:
In your advertisement it is stated that Onyx Sand has a
slight buffering capacity. How much will 2 bags of Onyx
Sand buffer the pH up in 40 gallons of neutral (7.0) water?
A: We have found that Onyx Sand will buffer DI water (water
with no buffering ability and a pH of 7.0) between 7.2 -
7.4 depending on acid production in the aquarium.
Q:
Can I mix Onyx Sand and Flourite?
A: Yes
