a premium reef line from Seachem

advertised on the Back Cover of the September 2007 issue of Tropical Fish Hobbyist (TFH).

When I try the webpage www.aquavitro.com nothing comes up.

What is up with that?

What more information can you release?

We do plan on having that site up and running in a few weeks. When the site is up and running product information will be available. Thank you so much for your interest.

Just so you know, from looking at the Back Cover of TFH magazine, I had no clue it was Seachem until I looked for Seachem under the magazine's listing of advertisers.

Very nice ad.

Of course I will be going bonkers until I know what it is all about.

I am hoping that Seachem will have something in the new line up with information about Plants in the Reef Aquarium. I realize that is a specialized area, but even a Salt Water Tank with Rocks in it needs a healthy plant, right?

I look forward to seeing the new website.

Thank you.

You are very welcome. We are expanding in areas, but it does take time.

I saw the new home page.

It looks encouraging.

Thank you.

You guys are going to teach Reefers what plants are yes?

(Please say yes.)

You all make great stuff.

I look forward to the new adventures.

I assume that the site will not be complete until at the very earliest the end of September or October.

Is this approximately correct?

That would be approximately. I apologize that I do not have further information to give, but we are currently working on it.

It is now November 11th. Still nothing. Not sure how long advertisers expect consumers to keep an interest. Just a thought.

We are really trying to get the product line out. We release products when we are more than 100% sure of the quality of the product consumer is getting.

The ad in this month's edition of Tropical Fish Hobbyist was interesting to look at and read.

It gave more information than the website.

I was surprised the website was listed in the ad.

I wish you the best with it all.

It was exciting for us we just got the magazine in this morning and reviewed the ads. Thank you very much and look for the products in the very near future.

May I ask who or where you are test marketing the products with currently? (website, regions of the country, authors, etc.)

Reef Central?

If you cannot disclose this, I understand.

Just curious.

AquaVitro is finally here! This premium reef line is composed of 7 totally new products. We’ve distilled the essential components of reef keeping into a no compromises, rigorously optimized product line. We’re committed to maintaining that optimization. Here are the new product names: alpha, balance, eight-four, ions, fuel, calcification, and vibrance. These will only be available through independent retail stores.

Please let me know if this will be available at either

www.bigalsonline.com or
www.drfostersmith.com

It may be difficult to find this line at retail stores in Upstate New York. But I look forward to it.
It is nice to see the website online. Good information.

Can you also provide me with a good link to reviews or discussions about ReefSalt on either ReefCentral or somewhere else?
I want to fully understand why some people DON'T use Reef Salt. I think I have followed how it works. I would like to clear up misconceptions with fellow (local) hobbyists. They seem to think all salts are either basically the same or are manufactured by the same places FOR different brand names.

Thank you for whatever links you can provide or direction to get more information.

aquavitro will not be available for online retailers. We are working to get the line in stores.

There are some links available, but most of what we manage are not comparisons on salt brands to tell the truth.

I love Seachem Brand supplies and stick by them.

I would be thrilled if any retail store in the Capital District would carry Aqua Vitro, but considering how hard it is to find just Reef Salt in the local shops - well, I am glad someone can buy this (maybe in NYC or Long Island 3 hour drive).

I will continue to purchase ReefSalt and am very glad that I can find it at Dr Foster & Smith.

It costs substantially more than the competitors.

It would be nice to tell my friends WHY it is so much better besides just my personal opinion and gut instinct.

I don't believe any of the distributors in that area have picked up the line yet since it is still so new. We are working diligently on this and it is just a matter of time. We would love for you to try the line out and give us your feedback.
As far as the Reef Salt goes, there are some major advantages of ours over competitors brands. First and most importantly, we are the ONLY manufacturer that adds buffers to our salt. This allows our salt to mix up at a pH that is optimal for a reef tank. Other brands of salt mix up at a pH that is between 7.8-8.0. This is because CO2 comes in from the air and creates bicarbonate as a buffer. Bicarbonate has a pK in saltwater around 7.8. Therefore have solely bicarbonate as your buffering system will always cause you to have a low pH. We use a blend of carbonate sources in addition to borate (which is found in natural seawater to help maintain pH) in order to give you a better pH and alkalinity. In addition to this, our salt has elevated levels of Calcium, Magnesium, and Strontium in order to allow you to replace the ions you are taking out during a water change. I am sure you know how frustrating it is to get your parameters where you want them and then have to disrupt them by doing a water change. Reef Salt allows you to avoid this frustration all together. There are other factors that make our salt superior, such as how easily it dissolves, but these are the key points.

Thank you. I will print this out.

I appreciate your help with this.

Regarding the CO2, should I mix the water and ReefSalt and try to 'aerate' the mix also?

You can, but it is not necessary with our salt.

Jimbo205

" First and most importantly, we are the ONLY manufacturer that adds buffers to our salt."

Thanks. That makes sense. That is an easy one to remember.

"Other brands of salt mix up at a pH that is between 7.8-8.0. This is because CO2 comes in from the air and creates bicarbonate as a buffer. Bicarbonate has a pK in saltwater around 7.8. Therefore have solely bicarbonate as your buffering system will always cause you to have a low pH. "

Maybe I misread or misunderstood the first time I read this. I think that you are saying that however the competitors are creating their blend (cheaper ingredients) somehow it interacts at the water surface with CO2 in the air to create bicarbonate which is a buffer that stablizes at 7.8. Therefore, mixing Seachem Reefsalt with air may or may not matter because it already has different ingredients in it to buffer the water.

Thank you for taking the time to explain as best you can to me.

You can imagine who will schedule a day off from work to go to a customer seminar at a Select Dealer when my area (Area Code 518) eventually gets one. You can also imagine who will be at the front of the line. :)

I see a Select Dealer in area code 315 (Syracuse) and 845 (Wappingers Falls), so you are getting closer.

I will take what I learn and try to share it at my local club at www.cdmas.org

Again, thank you for your patience. I appreciate your trying to make it simple for the average user. :)

All salts will pull in CO2 and create bicarbonate as a buffer. Ours has borate in in order to make sure that your pH does not settle out at 7.8 or so (which is what will happen if you only had bicarbonate in the water as a buffer). Hopefully we can get a Select Dealer near you at some point soon:)

I just spoke with Tony at www.SwampBottom.com. I gave him the pitch. Hopefully, you can close the sale. I told him about your customer /support staff seminars and the fact that by choosing to become a Select Dealer does NOT mean having to purchase or stock EVERYTHING or in large quanitities.

I look forward to having Seachem become part of the Capital Region in NYS.

Thanks again.

Thank you with the education regarding "All salts will pull in CO2 and create bicarbonate as a buffer." I did not know that beforehand.

Do you plan on having available dealer info for the stores on the aquavitro home page? It's hard for some of us to travel long distances to purchase your products.

Mine always settles at 7.8 in my tank usually a day or so after my water change.

Sorry for the delayed response. I am not sure whether or not this will be a feature on the AquaVitro website. I will definitely bring this up to the webmaster and see if we can provide something like this on the site. In the meantime, we are usually very good at helping consumers locate stores where they can purchase our products. If you are searching for the closest store near you that is selling AquaVitro, send us a private message with your location and we will try to locate one for you.
