I'm using Matrix for my 75 gal reef. I'm using it in a canister filter. My question is: what is the life of the product and what is the maintenance of Matrix? Do you rinse it in saltwater once in awhile or just leave it alone?

From time to time it is a good idea to gently rinse Matrix against itself to remove any slime the bacteria produce on the substrate every few months. Matrix can be rinsed in fresh or salt water just fine. It depends on bio-load and how dirty the water as to how often you need to rinse it. Matrix does not have to be replaced. Never replace all of your bio filtration at once, because it will remove your beneficial bacteria. It is a good idea to replace some Matrix a few times a year to add new places for bacteria to colonize. (Replacing about 1/3 to 1/2) When you decide to replace some of the Matrix you can either place the new Matrix behind the old Matrix to let the bacteria trickle back to the new Matrix or you can add Stability to quickly add more bacteria. Stability is bacteria in a bottle. Stability will quickly increase bacteria. It can be added directly to the tank.
For SeaChem Tech.
After replacing some of the Matrix (1/3 to 1/2) can the old Matrix taken out be regenerated or is it best to just throw it away?

When replacing some of the Matrix, it is a good idea to put fresh, brand new Matrix in with your old Matrix that is still in your canister. This gets rid of dead bacteria and gives live bacteria new internal and external pores to colonize on the new Matrix.
