View Full Version : Reef Salt cloudy
Opened a new bucket of Reef Salt last week. Mixed up 5 gal with RO water, dropped in a powerhead, and walked away. Next day the water was the color of milk. Unplugged the ph, next day the water was clear but there was a layer of white dust on the bottom and the ph. Dumped it & mixed up another 5 gallons. Exact same result. Is this a bad batch?

It sounds like there is some precipitation going on. The white layer that settled is not harmful and the clear salt water could have been used. The power head you are using may be too strong for the volume of water you are mixing.
Is the clear water going to have the same chemical composition of a SW mix that never precipitated?
I only used a 200gph powerhead on 5 gallons of water.

If nothing ever precipitated the composition should have higher calcium and magnesium.
