I would like to know how Malawi/Victoria Buffer would affect the Total Hardness (GH) and Alkaline Hardness (KH). May I know the degree of GH and KH increase per gram of buffer added to each litre of water.

Also, does the buffer contain any sodium, phosphate, and nitrate?

I am planning to use the buffer in a Sulawesi shrimp only tank to raise the pH to about 8.2. Is there any component in the buffer I should be concern of? Do you have other products which may be more suitable.

Many Thanks.

Malawi/Victoria Buffer will have no effect on general hardness, though it will raise alkalinity 1-2 meq/L per dose. Being a carbonate-based buffer, this product is a blend of carbonate salts(carbonate and bicarbonate); it therefore contains no phosphate or nitrate. It should be completely suitable for your purposes.

Dear Tech Support,

Thanks for your reply. Would you tell me how much is 1-2 meq/L in degrees hardness (dH) or ppm? When you mentioned per dose, do you mean 5 g (1 level teaspoon) for each 40–80 L (10 to 20 gallons) of water? Would you also tell me what cations (eg. Ca, Mg, or K)is in the blend?

Thanks again!

1meq/L = 2.8dH = 50ppm
Yes. That is what I meant by "per dose". The only cation this product would contain would be sodium.
