I am using Prime (10ml in 30 gal tank)to drop my Ammonia levels,24 hours later my ammonia alert sensor & my mardel free ammonia meter both stayed the same. Treated again 3ml in my 30 gal. tank and 10 hrs later still no change.

My water parameters are:
Nitrate:20
Nitrite:0
GH:75
KH:300
PH:8.4
Ammonia: 0.5
Temp:78

Am I doing somthing wrong? My ammonia alert sensor is only at the alert stage but shoudn't it go back to safe? mardel free ammonia meter is at caution but nether is going to safe.

sigma,

Thanks for posting. The Mardel test will give you a false positive when testing for ammonia that is bound to Prime. Only the Ammonia Alert can actually distinguish between free ammonia and ammonia bound to Prime. When the Ammonia Alert transitions back from high concentration to low concentration, it may take longer than does the reverse. To expedite the process, I suggest taking the alert out for a few hours and letting the sensor return to yellow. Once it has returned to the "safe" reading, place it back in the tank and it should read accurately. Thanks for posting!
