Hello,

I was just testing for Nitrite today and was using Seachem's kit and API's Nitrite kit. The readings seem to be different for the same water sample.

Seachems is showing 1 and the API kit a little over .25. Both kits seem to indicate they test in ppm NO2- (mg/L).

Do both kits measure in the same units of the same thing? or is some conversion needed?

I ran the reference sample for Nitrate in the SeaChem kit and came up with 5 after 4 minutes. I believe this should be 10?

Both kits are newly purchased, but I don't know the dates of manufacture.

One last note: the API test changes from color to color at each level which seems a little easier to read then the Seachem test which uses increasing saturation of the same color. Any tips on accurately comparing this color saturation method between the reflective card and the translucent water sample?

Thank you.

I'm very sorry that you are having issues with the MultiTest: Nitrite/Nitrate test kit. If the API test kit is measuring in mg/L (ppm) then it is not necessary to use any conversions. If you have followed the instructions on the label for running the reference sample, then you should come out with 10 mg/L. I would recommend trying to run the reference one more time and if possible, get a second opinion on the color change. When I run this test, I always use the well plates on the bottom and lay the color chart right below so that I can directly compare as the color changes.

Also, if you could provide us with the 5 digit lot numbers off of the reagents in the kit, I will be glad to look further into this issue. Thank you for your patience and we look forward to your reply.
