How do you regulate phosphates in the aquarium when using municipal water? What are the results of having to much phosphate in your aquarium water?

Thanks for your question. Phosphate can be removed and controlled with regular use of our PhosGuard. This media is most efficient when kept in an area of aggressive water flow (like in most filters). I recommend monitoring phosphate concentration with our MultiTest Phosphate test kit. When the phosphate concentration increases, you know the media is exhausted and needs to be replaced. Phosphate is a nutrient for algae and, in certain situations, can contribute to nuisance algae growths. This is why it is often considered undesirable.
