Matrix

If Matrix were spherical shape wouldn't it prevent spore clogging or compacting in the filter? Is it possible that you make a spherical/improved version?

Re: Matrix

The pore clogging of Matrix is partially due to particulate matter and you can benefit from good mechanical filtration prior to running the water through the Matrix. Clogging is also due heavily to the biological activity in the media itself. Bacteria produce a bio film of their own. Having a spherical shape would be preferential in some ways for water flow. However, we are limited by the feasiblity in manufacturing and the end cost to the user. Even in the spherical shape you would still end up with some pores clogging over time. Therefore, we prefer to maintain an affordable media that is perfectly sufficient as is rather than providing the spherical shape at an exhorbitant cost to the hobbyist.
