cichlid salt home remedy

I saw a site with a recipe for making your own cichlid salt using epsom salt, salt, and baing soda, but I am skeptical. Is this just as good as your Cichlid Lake Salt? What benefits do I lose if i use a home made version?

Re: cichlid salt home remedy

The ingredients you mentioned really could not provide a complete replication of the mineral salts that are contained in the lakes of Africa. There are many key elements missing. The ingredients do not allow for any calcium or potassium among other several other important elements. As such you could not yield the same results using the formula as you would using the Seachem Cichlid Lake Salt.
