seachem matrix

Hi there, is it possible to lower nitrate down to 0ppm using 2L of matrix on a 60g tank? i placed matrix inside of my canister, there is no nitrate showing up, tested by API liquid drop test kit, is this normal 0 nitrate? thanks!

Re: seachem matrix

It is definitely possible. That means the filtration is efficiently supporting bacteria for the number of fish you have. As long as nitrate levels are at 20 ppm or below a tank is usually fine. Since this is in the FreshWater/Community section I assume this is not a planted tank and there is no true need for nitrate to be in the water.

Re: seachem matrix

i have no plants in the tank, 6 goldfish, change water once a week, ammonia nitrite nitrate all at 0. nitrate was about 5 - 20 ppm before i added my canister, i was worry about my tank going back to the cycling process. i guess the 2L matrix is effective 0 nitrate hehe. thanks for the support!
