Cloudy floaties in Flourish Nitrogen?

Recently, I have begun seeing cloudy chunks suspended in my 1/2 L bottle of Seachem Flourish Nitrogen. The bottle is only three months old (I bought it from the LFS just before christmas). I keep it by the tank at room temperature.

The product has also changed its smell; it has become somewhat musty.

Does this stuff have a shelf life? Am I storing it improperly? And, will continuing to use it in my planted tank be advised?

Thank you for any help/advice!

T. Foster :)

Re: Cloudy floaties in Flourish Nitrogen?

Thanks for the question. I just took a look at a pretty old bottle of Flourish Nitrogen that we have around and I did not see anything of the sort in it. Room temp is the proper storage conditions. Sounds to me like a little bit of fungus possibly. It is highly unlikely that this would be harmful to the tank. Please provide the 5-digit lot # off of the bottle so I can check its manufacture date.

Re: Cloudy floaties in Flourish Nitrogen?

Dear Tech;
Thanks for the response! Glad to see this active forum for planted tank enthusiasts and newbies like me. I keep hornwort, Hygro. Polysperma and lots of watersprite, mainly for the fish' sake. The hornwort absolutely decimates the nitrogen in the tank, and I've found supplementation with Flourish helps keep everyone happy.

The floaties are small (2-3mm) white cottony balls suspended in the liquid.They seem to dissipate after being dumped in the tank, and the fish even try to eat them, but spit them out again.

The code printed on the bottle is 31756.0. I hope this is the one to which you are referring.

Thanks again.

Tyler Foster :)

Re: Cloudy floaties in Flourish Nitrogen?

I have checked that lot # and the batch was made a little over 2 years ago so it is certainly not an issue of being an old product. I am pretty certain that the product is fine to use, but if you would like to PM your mailing address, we can see about getting you a new bottle. Thanks!
