Using the same products or different ones

I have a few questions that I need help with.

1. If I'am using a Seachem product in my tank(Neutral regulator) and I test my water for ammonia, and use another product that is not from Seachem, will that affect the fish or should I stick to using all products for water treatment and medicating from 1 company?

2. How often should I test my water in my aquarium for ph level, ammonia, water hardness etc...?

P.S.
Does Seachem offer any free samples of there products? If they do, where do I go or what do I fill out to recieve them? :)

Re: Using the same products or different ones

Be careful if you add several different products at once as some of them can have reactions when used together. Without knowing what other products you use it is hard to say the reaction it will have.

Minimally I would suggest testing your tank monthly. If it is a new aquarium than I would suggest testing it at least weekly if not daily for ammonia, nitrite and pH. Since you have a freshwater aquarium I would recommend that you get an Ammonia Alert and a pH Alert. These will allow you to see at a glance the levels of toxic ammonia and pH.

We really don't have any product samples available. We hope to be able to do this in the future
