Local Fish Stores

Where or how do these guys make most of their profit?

I figured out that they don't do the planted aquariums because there is no profit for them.

Salt water and reef tanks seem to be where all the money is.

Is that true?

Or are there other ways that I could share with them ways to make money for their store selling and promoting Planted Aquariums?

I have 2 Local Fish Stores in my area.
Eddies Aquarium in Latham, NY and
Union Aquarium in Schenectady, NY

Re: Local Fish Stores

There is profit in all aspects of a fish store. Perhaps there is not much interest in planted aquariums in your area and therefore the expense and loss are too high compared to the rate of sale.

Perhaps by joining a freshwater aquarium club you may be able to encourage people to try live plants. Once there is enough interest perhaps the store will be willing to give it a try. Other options are to see if the store has a board to post pictures of your aquariums on and post some pictures of your planted aquariums. This may bring about some interest.

Sometimes the owner prefers to stick with their interests and will only keep one line. I have encountered stores that only sell cichlids, saltwater, or even plants. Some of these store may be willing to order special items for you, you may want to ask.
