Discus buffer

I do a 50% water change once a week for my discus. The pH is currently at 6.0 and I was wondering how I can maintain that pH with a water change. How much discus buffer should I use with my water change to maintain pH 6.0 the water being supplied from the tap is at pH 7.2

Re: Discus buffer

Thanks for the post. If your tank is not a planted tank, then I would recommend using the Discus Buffer in conjunction with the Neutral Regulator in order to specifically target a pH of 6.0. There is a ratio chart listed on the label that allows you to target any pH between 5.8-6.8 by using these two products together. These ratios are based on using RO/DI water, so since you are using tap water, it may take a little trial and error to reach your desired pH. I would recommend starting out with the suggested ratios (1:6; Neutral Reg:Discus Buffer) and then test your replacement water to see where this brought you. If it is still a little high then add a bit more Discus Buffer.

However, if you are not wanting to use the Neural Regulator, then you can certainly use the Discus Buffer alone and still achieve a pH of 6.0. I would recommend adding the instructed amount to your replacement water until you reach your desired pH. Testing along the way so that you do not over shoot it. If you would like to read more about the Neutral Regulator follow the link below:

I hope this information was helpful and did not confuse you. Let us know if you need additional assistance.
