Cupramine /Absorbs/Spectrum

Hello friends.

In the treatment tank that I am using cupramine the rocks and sand. I wonder if they absorb the copper leaving I reach the ideal level, and if he absorbs enough to saturate?
I need to know because I have to take the rocks and sand from the system.

Another issue would be on the immunity of fish treated with cupramine.
It really affects immunity to the extent of sick leave for example a cure oodiniium more fish dies by a secondary bacterial?

What spectrum cupramine? Protzoarios? Bacteria? Virus?

Tks

Re: Cupramine /Absorbs/Spectrum

Hello Igor,

Thank you for your questions regarding Cupramine. Cupramine is an extremely effective anti-parasitic medication that eradicates ectoparasites of both freshwater and marine fish. Cupramine will not address any bacterial or fungal infections that occur secondarily to the initial parasitic infection, though it also will certainly not suppress the immune systems of the affected fish either. Should there be evidence of a secondary infection, we stress not to use any other medications while there is still copper in the system; doing so may lead to the potential of drug interactions in which the copper may be reduced to a form that is toxic to the fish. Our recommendation in this case is to complete the entire course of treatment with Cupramine, remove all copper from the system, and then treat for the secondary infection if necessary.

Ideally, one should try and use a copper-based medication like Cupramine in a bare-bottom hospital tank, though we know that this is not an option for everyone. The only way to know whether or not the copper has reached the appropriate concentration for therapeutic use is to test for its presence and concentration with a copper test kit. Doing so will allow you to know the following:

1) the copper is not being absorbed by anything, and is therefore at the proper concentration, &
2) after completing the treatment, you can test to make sure that all copper has been removed from the system

We hope to have addressed your questions, but please let us know if we can help you further. Again, thank you for using Cupramine, and we wish you much success with it!

Re: Cupramine /Absorbs/Spectrum

Thanks friends,

One more doubt, made it ideal in the concentration after a few applications I believe that the rock and sand has absorbed much, I wonder now if the rock and sand will continue absorbing the copper? and the copper tends to fall as much the day? 'm monitoring but wonder how much more or less have to use.
Detail as the skimmer is working.

Thank you very much

Igor

Re: Cupramine /Absorbs/Spectrum

You are very welcome! :-)

The rocks/sand will eventually become saturated and will not be able to take on any more copper. At that point you should start to get a copper reading on your test kit, which means that the medication is now in the water column. The best option is to continue to test the water after each dose until you reach your final concentration (0.25 mg/L freshwater or 0.5 mg/L saltwater). Once you have achieved the final concentration, it will remain there until you remove it via a water change or with chemical filtration. It is perfectly acceptable to leave your skimmer on during treatment.

I hope this helps!
