Two Purigen Questions

I have two questions regarding Purigen in my tanks.

1. Firstly is it OK to extend the bleach soak time for Purigen? As I just went to put my 100ml sachet of Purigen into a solution of prime to neutralise the bleach after 24 hours in 50/50 bleach and water and as I shook the sachet under the running tap to rinse it I noticed that rather a lot of the granules were still black so I have replaced it in a fresh solution of 50/50 bleach.

2. Secondly I was given a huge "goodie box" of fish keeping supplies as a 40th Birthday present and it included a bottle of API Stress Coat+ which I would like to use in case my pl**co's start fighting again and make a mess of each other, the bottle doesn't say it contains ammo lock, but it is partly a Chlorine and Chloramine water conditioner too and I wanted to know if that's compatible with Purigen.

Re: Two Purigen Questions

Thanks for the questions.

1) It is okay to extend the bleach soak portion of the regeneration process. It is also a good idea to move the Purigen pouch around a little bit in the solution in order to ensure that all of the media is exposed thoroughly.

2) I am not certain on this question. Your best bet would be to contact API and ask them if that product contains any amines. If it does, then your Purigen will not be able to be safely regenerated if used in conjunction with it.
