Paraguard OverOxigen & Label

Hello:

I just bought Paraguard for a 300lt fresh water discus aquarium, and I notice 2 things.

1- I use the dossage recommended 1 cup for every 10 gallons, and today at morning discus and ramiz where searching for more oxigen on the top. I never saw a warning regarding more air. Tetras and Apistogramas where not affected at sight.

2- The label is confusing on leguages other than English...(250ml) it say: 1 cup every 40 liters (10 gallons), but in spanish and other lenguages says 1 cup for every 250 liters and in italian says 1 cup for every 200 liters...is weird.

Re: Paraguard OverOxigen & Label

edosan, I am sorry that you are having trouble with Paraguard. First, thank you for bringing the labeling issue to our attention. I will have that checked out. Could you please provide the lot # on the bottle.

Paraguard, like many aquarium products, is a reducing agent. In rare cases, where the oxygen bearing capacity of the water is extremely low, it has the potential to reduce the oxygen even lower. In this case, I am guessing that bioload and temperature played a part. What is the temperature of your tank? This can be remedied by doing a water change and or using activated carbon. If you would like to continue treatment you can do so using a smaller dose. Starting with a half dose is generally a good way to start. If no signs of stress present themselves you can either raise the dose in small increments or you can leave it at a half dose. Of course if signs of stress do present themselves you can do a water change to lower the concentration further. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
