Switching from Prime to Safe

I'm a very happy Prime user (thanks Seachem!) and now I'm ready to switch to using Safe. I currently dose 1 and 1/2 caps of Prime during every water change for my 72 gallon tank. According to the instructions on the Prime bottle, that works out to 7.5 ml of Prime. How much Safe is equivalent to 7.5 ml of Prime?

Re: Switching from Prime to Safe

It depends on what you are trying to remove.

To remove…
Chlorine: use 1 measure to each 60 L (15 gallons*) of tap water (removes 1 ppm).
Chloramine: use 1 measure to each 75 L (20 gallons*) of tap water (removes 1 ppm).
Ammonia: use 1 measure to each 11 L (3 gallons*) of tap water (removes 1 ppm). Do not overdose!

So... for general water changes I would recommend using 1 measure per 15 gallons. If you are wanting to treat the entire volume of the tank, use 5 measures.

Re: Switching from Prime to Safe

Sorry, I'm still a little confused. The amount of Safe that's equivalent to 7.5 ml of Prime depends on the water chemistry? I'm not sure of the levels of ammonia, chlorine and chloramine in my water, but 7.5 ml of Prime has worked perfectly for me so far. Will 500 mg of Safe be equivalent to the 7.5 ml of Prime I'm currently using?

I don't mean to be pedantic, but I'm very nervous about making a miscalculation here and killing my little buddies.

Re: Switching from Prime to Safe

No need to apologize. I will try to clarify. See below.

100mg of Safe treats 40L (10 gallons)
1mL of Prime treats 40L (10 gallons)

So if 7.5mL of Prime has worked well for you, then you will need to use 750mg of Safe to be an equivalent dose to Prime.

I hope this clears up any confusion. Let us know if you need further assistance. :-)
