LiveBearer Salt & Hygrometer

I like the easy directions of 1 tablespoon per 10 Gallons for dosing the LiveBearer Salt.

But when using a Hygrometer, what should the readings be to make sure the correct amount of LiveBearer Salt are in my planted aquariums?

I am curious about what the different readings should be for Bettas, Black Neons, Mollies, Endlers or Regular Neons.

You answers for each of those different readings would be great.
I spent 5 hours re-reading my book on Livebearers last night but could not find ANY hygrometer readings for any of those fish.

Seperately - can you let me know of a good link or information on how LiveBearer Salt is beneficial or what it actually does for the fish.

And of course, all of this is in a planted aquarium.

Why is livebearere salt good and regular aquarium salt is bad for aquarium plants?

So many questions. The more I learn, the more questions I have.

But you ladies and gentlemen are always great and I know I can look forward to some easy to understand, thorough answers from you all. I have to say Seachem has always been the best source of information. And of course, Aquatic Plant Central .com.

Thanks again. I look forward to your reply.

Re: LiveBearer Salt & Hygrometer

Well, the good news on my HyDrometer (oops, not a hygrometer) is that I found out that between 1.00 and 1.01 there are four lines that I guess would be for 1.002, 1.004, 1.006 & 1.008.

I am thrilled. Now my tap water is very hard. So I am not sure if by adding LiveBearer Salt I would just be adding more Calcium and Magnesium that I already have in my tap water or what.

I am finding it pretty hard to find Live Bearer Salt and know that I may end up special ordering it which is why I want to now learn a little more about what it is.

How is this similar or different than Epsom Salts? Or is it even close? I am no chemist. I just want to learn a little more about this before I have to go through my local store to special order this. I was surprised to not find it listed with Foster & Smith or Big Al's online. Like I said, I will probably special order this through my local fish store if I can learn a little bit more.

Thank you again for the help.

Jim

Re: LiveBearer Salt & Hygrometer

Thank you.

And how is it different or similar to Seachem Equilibrium or the other Seachem Salts?

Re: LiveBearer Salt & Hygrometer

Equilibrium does not add to the salinity it increases GH by supplying minerals. Any other salts that we have are designed for either Cichlids or a Salt water. The Cichlid Salts are designed to replicate the specific environment for different cichlids.
