Copper

Hello.

I am using your CupriSorb product. At one time I had a brass fitting in my sump so I am worried about copper being present in my tank.

I have tested for copper every other day for the past month and it's always negative. I was worried my test kit was not showing so I added CupriSorb.

I've had it in my sump for 5 full days now and I've noticed no change in color. Would it be safe to assume I do not have copper? Should I leave it there or remove it?

Thank you and kind regards

Re: Copper

It should not be a concern as brass is not very soluble. And if any minute amount did leach from this fitting, it would likely precipitate out of solution....especially in the presence of an elevated alkalinity like in saltwater. Using our CupriSorb is an excellent indicator of copper as it is a color indicating resin. If you use this resin in an area of high water flow for a few hours (even up to a day) and do not experience a color change, then copper is not an issue. You mentioned that it has been in your system for 5 days with no color change. It is acceptable to leave it in your filter if you choose but not necessary.

Re: Copper

Thank you for your response.

The "Seachem Bag" is indeed in a high water flow area in my wet/dry. No color change since I added it.

I will leave it there until I receive my Purigen I ordered, then replace the CupriSorb with Purigen.

Thanks for making such great products and taking the time to interact with your customers.
